Warriors’ Steve Kerr, Draymond Green share ‘competitive fire’

Kerr believes he, Draymond are ‘more alike’ than people think originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

The Warriors have plenty of personalities up and down their roster.

From Steph Curry to Klay Thompson to Draymond Green, each of Golden State’s leaders on the court bring their own unique, competitive fire.

Of anyone on the roster, nobody is as fiery and passionate as Draymond. The only person within the Warriors organization who can relate to Draymond the best is coach Steve Kerr.

Having coached Draymond for seven of his nine NBA seasons, Kerr has seen it all from the outspoken forward.

“We both have the ability to snap, to completely lose our minds,» Kerr said of Draymond on Tim Kawakami’s «The TK Show«. «We are more alike than people would guess. I think the competitive fire inside us is in fact, very similar. It drives us, it’s what drove me from the time I was a little kid to know, it’s what’s driven Draymond and that competitiveness is always going to drive us.»

One instance where Draymond’s emotions got the better of him was the famous conflict between him and former Warriors forward Kevin Durant on the court in 2018.

Earlier this summer, both Green and Durant sat down for a discussion on Bleacher Report’s «Chips with Draymond Green,» where the two of them agreed that Warriors management mishandled the situation that led to Green’s one-game suspension.

Kawakami asked Kerr about Green and Durant’s conversation this summer.

“I’m going to chalk this one up (to the fact) that I recognize that you have to ask that question — and by the same token, I don’t have to answer it,” Kerr said with a laugh. “So we’re going to move on to the next question.”

Draymond is and will be a huge part of the Warriors’ success this season and every season he remains with the team throughout his career. Kerr couldn’t be happier to have a player like Green on his team.

«It’s a part of who we are organizationally, it’s a part of who we are individually and it’s something I look at and am thankful every day I’m able to go to war with Draymond Green.”
