Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic has tested positive for coronavirus, ESPN reported Tuesday. The All-Star’s return to the United States from his native Serbia will be temporaily delayed after the positive test last week.
Jokic is expected to be cleared to return to Denver within a week, according to the report. He has been asymptomatic since testing positive.
News of Jokic having coronavirus comes on the heels of top-ranked men’s tennis star Novak Djokovic announcing that he and his wife tested positive. Djokovic was also in Serbia last week for a series of exhibition matches.
He and Jokic were photographed hugging each other.
Upon recovery, Jokic will join a Nuggets team currently in third place in the Western Conference, as the NBA prepares to resume its season at Disney World.
According to the NBA Players Handbook, a week-long period of required coronavirus testing began Tuesday, so it’s likely Jokic will undergo more testing once he arrives in Denver. Required individual workouts begin next Wednesday, and all partipating teams travel to the bubble location in Orlando June 7.
